Kaoruko Harima (Ryoko Shinohara) has two children. She lives separately from her husband Kazuaki (Hidetoshi Nishijima). They have agreed to divorce after their daughter's exam for elementary school finishes. One day, they learn that their daughter drowned in a swimming pool. The doctor informs them that their daughter is brain dead and does not have a chance to recover. The couple has two choices. One choice is to donate Mizuho's organs to others in need and their other choice is to wait until Mizuho's heart stops beating.

播磨薰子和经营公司的丈夫和昌有两个孩子，但是他们已经分居了，在女儿小学考试结束后，他们决定离婚。某天，他们却得到了一个悲伤的消息。女儿瑞穗在游泳池溺水昏迷不醒，被医生宣告脑死亡，不可能再苏醒过来。到底是接受孩子脑死亡的事实把她的器官捐赠出去，还是等到她心跳停止那天呢。两人面临着难以抉择的局面，最终，在商量一番过后，他们决定捐赠器官。 然而就在诀别的瞬间，薰子发现女儿的手动了一下，于是她不接受女儿已经死亡的现实，又拒绝捐赠器官了。为了妻子和女儿，和昌决心使用自己公司的最先进技术，起用史无前例的延长寿命的治疗。这层意义在于，女儿只是睡着一样的美丽，身体会慢慢长大。 这个决定让薰子陷入了疯狂，看到妻子这个样子，和昌开始怀疑自己的决定是否正确，并陷入了深深的苦恼当中。

Kaoruko Harima mempunyai dua orang anak. Dia hidup berasingan dengan suaminya Kazuaki. Mereka setuju bercerai selepas peperiksaan sekolah rendah anak perempuan mereka tamat. Suatu hari, mereka diberitahu anak perempuan mereka lemas di kolam renang. Doktor mengumum anak perempuan mereka otak mati dan tidak berpeluang untuk sembuh. Pasangan ini mempunyai 2 pilihan. Satu, menderma organ Mizuho kepada orang lain yang perlu dan satu lagi tunggu sehingga denyutan jantung Mizuho berhenti.
